15 years of OpenStack

A success story of open cloud infrastructure!

OpenStack was launched 15 years ago with the goal of creating an open, scalable, and flexible cloud infrastructure. What began as a joint project between Rackspace and NASA has grown into a globally established open source framework that is now used by companies and research institutions on every continent.

OpenStack has shown that open standards and collaborative development enable sustainable innovation. The community now has thousands of contributors who are continuously working on new features, stability, and security. With projects such as Nova (compute), Neutron (networking) and Cinder (storage), OpenStack forms the backbone of modern private and hybrid clouds – independent, flexible and adaptable.

15 years of OpenStack are also proof of how important open technologies are for digital sovereignty and innovation – especially at a time when control over data and infrastructure is becoming increasingly relevant.

Congratulations to everyone who makes OpenStack possible – here's to the next 15 years!
